Cell Phones and Electronic Devices

Collegiate High does not assume any responsibility should devices be lost, damaged, or stolen.

Cell phones and/or other electronic devices are not to be used or visible during class unless used with teacher permission and for educational purposes. Headphones are allowed only as part of the online learning environment.

Students are extended the privilege of possessing cell phones, smart phones, and other electronic devices not provided by HCDE on campus. Non-HCDE devices used during class time inappropriately or causing a distraction will be confiscated and returned only to a parent. All electronic devices, including personal cell phones, used during the school day are considered part of an open forum and can be checked for appropriate communication. Any device (both HCDE and non-HCDE) used for purposes of harassment, profanity, or other inappropriate purposes will dictate consequences for the student. No device used or brought to school may have inappropriate content. Students who lock or remove their battery from a device when checked or confiscated will receive consequences and a parent conference will be required before the device privileges are reinstated.

Student use of electronic devices is not limited to at school only. If a student uses an HCDE device to access inappropriate material at any time, the student is subject to disciplinary procedures. Also, if a student posts anything from any device (HCDE or non-HCDE) that is regarded as bullying or harassment towards another student or group, that student is subject to school discipline, regardless of the time when it was electronically posted.

Violation of the cell phone policy will result in the following:

  • 1st offense - Cell phone will be taken and returned by the end of the day.

  • 2nd offense - The phone will be held for 10 days or until picked up by a parent/guardian.

  • 3rd offense - Phone will be held for 10 days. A parent must sign the phone out. No exceptions.

** If a student becomes argumentative or refuses to give a device to a school system employee then the first two steps will be skipped and the phone will be held for 10 days.
